I volunteered abroad two years ago, back in 2020 right before the pandemic started. I went to Nicaragua for ten days and during those ten days of volunteering, I’ve discovered some advantages and some disadvantages to volunteering, especially abroad. First of all, it helped me develop new skills, such as improvising solutions when needed. It also helped me develop a new language, and now I can distinguish myself from others. I believe that the best advantage to volunteering is that you can make a difference in other people’s lives. For example, when I built a rainwater harvester, I felt like I had a purpose because I helped a whole village have better access to clean water. However, I’d say that there is one major disadvantage, and it is the cost. Volunteering abroad can because expensive really quickly because you have to pay for the plane ticket, where you’ll stay during your trip, and for supplies that you’ll have to bring over there.   I started my OJT with my colleague today, and it was a crazy day for me. First of all, as soon as I arrived at work, my trainer kept complaining about how bad his hourly wage was, and I could immediately see how bad of a drawback this employee was.  I’m certain that he brings negative energy to the workplace every day. This is a personal bias, but I personally prefer when people don’t complain when they’re around me because afterward, I feel like crap. However, I was just a trainee, so I didn’t feel comfortable confronting everyone yet, especially when it was my first day and I didn’t know the ins and outs of the job yet.

  It was the second week of the semester and my teachers had already begun piling on the homework. After dinner, I gave my English homework a cursory glance and made a snap decision about my time management. I decided to try the Pomodoro method. This method encourages people to work with the time they have instead of against it. Basically, I decided to put aside my distractions and do my schoolwork for 25 minutes straight, and then, I can take a 5-minute break. This method ensures that I am thoroughly focused on my homework so that I can easily pull off straight A’s. Though, this method can become maddening because I keep hearing alarms every 25 minutes.

My blog will mostly be me answering your questions about my program. This blog is mostly for people interested in nuclear medicine. As of today, the nuclear medicine program is not very well known, so my plan is to write a career summary on my blog to give more information about my program and what the career is about. Hi, my name is Marilie Lussier, and I'm currently 18 years old. I am originally from Sherbrooke, but I moved here 2 years ago to pursue my studies in nuclear medicine technology at Ahuntsic College. I am actually graduating next year since it's a 3 years program. I am currently in my last semester at Ahuntsic College because next semester I’ll be moving back to Sherbrooke to attend my one-year internship. My program is preparing me for one specific career which is being a nuclear medicine technologist. There seems to be no competition to get into my program because it is currently in high demand.
